Featuring...Syphilitic Ninja Vampires!

DG at GenCon Indy 2007

Wake-up you gamers! I know we haven’t posted since WW2, but pay attention cuz stuff’s getting interesting!

We will be at GenCon Indy splitting our time between the Paizo booth and the Margaret Weis Productions booth. Margaret Weis Productions is of course the producer of the fabulous Serenity Role Playing Game, and now the new Battlestar Galactica Roleplaying Game. But also, The Demon Hunters Roleplaying Game! The first ever role-playing game with a video included with it! We’ll be selling the DVD and the RPG Brotherhood Training Pamphlet at their booth as the finer elements of the corebook are still being finished. More on that release soon.

Paizo of course is our beloved distributor, who like you all, won’t get off our case about WHEN is Dorkness Rising going to be available for sale. To tell you the truth, we’re thinking the same damn thing. WHEN!!!! OH MY GOD WHEN!!!

*Deep breath*

Unfortunately the answer is still, we don’t know yet. The search for distribution is going well though. Submissions are sent off, and we’re in the process of getting actual facetime with the bigwigs. The good news is however, you can come see the movie at GenCon! It’s way better than last years. It’s actually DONE! I think. We’re scheduled for 4pm on Friday at the Grand Ballroom.

And we’re showing at 3pm on Friday at the Grand Ballroom, The Gamers! That’s right, Gamers goodness back to back. So come check us out Friday afternoon. More screenings will be announced once they become available.

Also, don’t forget how cool and awesome the folks over at Dragonlance are. The official trailer will be shown at a big event Thursday evening at GenCon. And the same folks who are involved with producing the Dragonlance Movie are the ones who are seeking us distribution. So despair not! Have patience, and please don’t kill me.

Now, on a side note, someone passed on to me a hilarious thing on YouTube you folks have to checkout. It’s a group of gamers doing public service announcements and they are hilarious.

SNEAK ATTACK!

Everything’s better with pirates!

So, in case you hadn’t noticed, there’s the trailer for The Gamers: Dorkness Rising!

Isn’t it shiny? Isn’t it cool? I know, I know. “When is the movie going to be released?” Well, the answer to that question hasn’t changed. We just plain don’t know. But the trailer (which, incidentally is also available for download in various sizes at the Gamers site) is a big step in that direction. This is part of what we’ve been working on to send to distributors. So no word yet, but sit tight fans. You’ll be the first to know!

“But,” I hear you say, “what if I want to see the movie right now? Or if not right now, at least from July 5th through 8th!” Funny you should ask such an oddly specific question!

If you happen to be in Columbus, Ohio from the 5th through the 8th of next month, be sure to stop in at the Origins International Game Expo. Producer/Director/Composer/Editor/Public-Urinator extraordinare Ben Dobyns will be present at the show, running back and forth between the Paizo Publishing and Margaret Weis Productions booths.

But as exciting as meeting the Cobbler’s Crystals Guy might be, the big news is the screenings. Not only will you finally get a chance to see The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, but Origins will be featuring a one-time-only sneak-preview screening of the Demon Hunters: Brotherhood Orientation Video from the upcoming Demon Hunters RPG. And do we ever mean preview. The paint will still be wet on this thing! Ben is the only person who will have seen the complete film before you! So be sure to be at the Film Room on Thursday, July 5th at 4:00pm, because you won’t get another chance to see this baby!

The rest of the DG films will be screening throughout the show. The full schedule is available on the Origins site, but here’s the highlights:

Film Date Time
Demon Hunters: Brotherhood Orientation Video July 5th 4pm
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising July 5th 7pm
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising July 6th 7pm
The Gamers July 7th 12:30pm
Demon Hunters: Dead Camper Lake July 7th 3pm
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising July 7th 7pm
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising July 8th 1pm

Huddle ’round the Campfire

This (sorry so late in the) week, we’ve got the Campfire Scene from “The Gamers” for your viewing enjoyment.

In other news, I’ve seen the rough cut of the companion DVD for the Demon Hunters RPG, and it is awesome! In this humble webmaster’s opinion, it’s hands down the best thing we’ve ever done. You guys will be pleasantly surprised!

Hey! What’s that up there?

So you know how DG makes movies and short films and comedy sketches and stuff? Well you wouldn’t really know it from the site. Apart from a few trailers and the long neglected podcast site, there’s not much here that shows what we do. So, starting today, we’ll have something new up every week or so that showcases a Dead Gentlemen Production. Might be a scene from one of our movies, might be one of our sketches, might, just might, be a trailer for Gamers: Dorkness Rising! You never know! So click ‘Play’, enjoy the clip, and come back next week for more!

The Demon Hunters Role Playing Game

March 27, 2007 (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) — Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. has reached an agreement with Dead Gentlemen Productions to produce role playing game products based on their cult-hit films, Demon Hunters and Demon Hunters: Dead Camper Lake.

“We’ve been fans of Dead Gentlemen’s films for years now,” says Jamie Chambers, Vice President of MWP. “We started with The Gamers and loved it, and quickly moved onto the Demon Hunters films. It occurred to us immediately that the basic premise of the movies would make a perfect set-up for games. Warriors for heaven fighting demons and monsters on Earth!”

Demon Hunters and its sequel follows members of the Brotherhood of the Celestial Torch, a team with a mandate from heaven to eliminate and destroy evil in the mortal realm. The films follow the Brotherhood in tracking down a ravaging Earthwalker demon known as Duamerthrax the Indestructible and the members of the nefarious Order of the Infernal Scepter. The films contain a mix of horror, action, and comedy — a blend that will be preserved in the upcoming game.

In addition to serving as a role playing game for a horrifically fun setting, the Demon Hunters Role Playing Game will offer something never before featured in a role playing game — video content. “We have been dying for a chance to produce something again in the Demon Hunters world,” says Don Early, Executive Director of DGP. “For over 7 years now we have been developing the world and the characters, so when Margaret Weis Productions approached us about doing an RPG based on our work, we cried. No, really! It was a beautiful moment.” Each copy of the hardcover edition of the book will also include a DVD. The short film, created by Dead Gentlemen Productions for the game, can be enjoyed on its own but also serves as an “orientation and training video” for new players jumping into the Demon Hunters universe for the first-time. The game book and video will premiere at the Gen Con Game Fair this coming August in Indianapolis, Indiana and be on-sale in hobby game and mass-market bookstores in September. The game will use the Cortex System game rules used for the Serenity Role Playing Game and the Battlestar Galactica Role Playing Game.

“Dead Gentlemen has gamed extensively with the Cortex System in MWP’s Serenity Role Playing Game, and we’re big fans of its flexibility and storytelling emphasis,” says Ben Dobyns, Director of Development for Dead Gentlemen Productions, “and we felt that Cortex was a natural fit for the characters, world, and thousands of possible stories to be told in the Demon Hunters universe.”

“I feel like we’ve come full circle,” says Matt Vancil, Head Writer of DGP and author of the Demon Hunters and Gamers films. “Dead Gentlemen started as a group of gamers making movies. Now our movies are being made into games. All is well with the universe.”

Previews of the film content and pages from the role playing game will be available online, with support on both the MWP and DG websites. Both companies look forward to working together to support the Demon Hunters RPG and hope to create game content based on other Dead Gentlemen films.
