Demon Hunters: Dead Camper Lake DVD

About the Film

All Chris ever wanted was to be an accountant. That changed forever when the vile demon Duamerthrax the Indestructible devoured his girlfriend and destroyed half his sleepy college campus. But Chris and Gabriel—the sole survivor of a celestial team of Demon Hunters dispatched to kill the demon—managed to slay Duamerthrax. At least that’s what they think. Fleeing towards a safe-house with Gabriel, poor Chris finds himself lost in a world of supernatural terrors—a world of time-traveling gunslingers, coniferous bounty hunters, and the very demon that killed his friends. To make things worse, the team of Demon Hunters waiting at the safe-house is led by Ichabod, Gabriel’s old rival, who lets Chris in on a terrible secret—that wasn’t the first team of hunters Gabriel’s gotten killed. When Duamerthrax returns and loyalties are tested, will Chris learn to fight back and survive the terrors of Dead Camper Lake? Will Gabriel overcome his dark past in time to blunt the threat? Or will Chris and Gabriel literally find themselves in Hell?

RECEPTION

In March of 2000, the Dead Gentlemen convinced a cast and crew of fifteen students to give up their spring break. They filmed most of Dead Camper Lake in a single week, and completed the shooting at locations in Washington and Oregon in the following months. Dead Camper Lake premiered on February 9, 2000 to a packed auditorium at PLU. The film was as much a success as its predecessor, retaining the same biting social criticism and absurd sense of humor, but also adding a darker tone with the new storyline. Technically superior to Demon Hunters in all ways, Dead Camper Lake boasted better sound and lighting, more exciting locations and costumes, and stunning digital effects.

LEGACY

Like Demon Hunters, Dead Camper Lake has screened at conventions and festivals all across the US. The Dead Gentlemen released in 2004 on a DVD that includes several special features, including the original Demon Hunters. The film is available at Paizo. In 2004, Dead Camper Lake was nominated for Best B-Movie at the 2004 B-Movie awards.

In 2008, the Dead Gentlemen helped Margaret Weis Productions produce the Demon Hunters Role-Playing Game as part of their Cortex game system. The Role-playing game—which includes the Demon Hunters Orientation Video—resets the Demon Hunters canon for a new generation of fans, and joins Battlestar Galactica and Serenity in MWP’s Cortex series of games.
